FASD Awareness Month has been a whirlwind of advocacy, community building, and celebrating the strengths of the FASD community. We want to thank everyone who joined us in Washington, DC for National FASD Impact Week and Hill Day, and we are thrilled to announce that we are already seeing the impact of your advocacy efforts! We also want to thank all of our new co-sponsors!

This month we have seen thirteen new House co-sponsors of HR. 3946 and two new Senate co-sponsors of S. 1800, with five of those new co-sponsors signing on after our Hill Day visits! Signing on to HR. 3946 on September 14th were Rep. Tony Cardenas [D-CA-29], Rep. Sanford Bishop [D-GA-2], Rep. Al Green [D-TX-9], Rep. Michael Lawler [R-NY-17], Rep. Paul Tonko [D-NY-20], Rep. Gerald Connoly [D-VA-11], Rep. Brian Higgins [D-NY-26], Rep. Jared Golden [D-ME-2], and Rep. John Rutherford [R-FL-5]. Signing on September 26th after Hill Day were Rep. Hank Johnson Jr. [D-GA-4], Rep. Joseph Morelle [D-NY-25], Rep. Kim Schrier [D-WA-8], and Rep. Ted Lieu [D-CA-36]. Senators Susan Collins [R-ME] and Kevin Cramer [R-ND] (previously announced) also signed onto S. 1800.

Five of the six new co-sponsors (Rep. Joseph Morelle, Rep. Kim Schrier, Rep. Ted Lieu and Senator Susan Collins) signed on after meeting with advocates on Hill Day. While we had a strong showing on the Hill this year, this sort of advocacy is happening all around the country and we want to thank everyone who has reached out to their legislators or held meetings with them regarding S. 1800/ HR. 3946 The FASD Respect Act!

If you need help with any part of the advocacy process (reaching out to your Senators and Representative, scheduling, how to conduct the meeting, moral support) please let us know! Email Chris Melfi in the FASD United offices anytime at melfi@fasdunited.org.
