We cannot wait to welcome you to Washington, DC next week for National FASD Impact Week and Hill Day! Look below for more information on Hill Day including talking points and other documents you can use to prepare for your meetings.
If you indicated that you wanted FASD United to schedule your meetings you will be receiving your final Hill Day schedule by email and when you check in at the Impact Week registration desk. If you indicated that you could schedule your own meetings, please make sure you have emailed [email protected] any meetings you have scheduled!
What to Expect on Hill Day
9:00 am: Hill Day Kickoff at Conference Hotel (Hyatt Regency Crystal City at Reagan National Airport)
We’ll begin the day together with a brief orientation where we will:
- Reiterate talking points and legislative asks
- Introduce FASD United Staff and advocates who can assist attendees throughout the day
- Learn where to find FASD United staff and fellow advocates throughout the day on the Hill
- Answer any last-minute questions before heading out
You can then travel to your meetings using rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft or take the Metro. For Metro, you can walk north from the hotel on Crystal Drive or S. Clark Street about 10 minutes until you reach the Crystal City Metro entrance. Take the Blue Line toward Downton Largo. You will ride 13 stops (20-25 minutes) until you reach Capitol South. When you exit Capitol South station you can walk north (towards C Street) you will arrive at the House Office Buildings (Cannon, Longworth, Rayburn). The Senate Office Buildings (Russell, Dirksen, Hart) are on the north side of the U.S. Capitol Building, which is a 10-to-15-minute walk from Capitol South Metro station.
10:00 am – 5:00 pm: Congressional Meetings (Capitol Hill)
Meetings will be pre-scheduled and will run throughout the day based on the availability of legislators and their staff. We will let you know where FASD United staff and other advocates are stationed on the Hill; staff will be located in cafeterias and other public areas to assist advocates and act as gathering points while not in meetings.
Congressional office buildings are where Senators and Representatives meet with constituents and conduct daily business. The House buildings (Cannon, Longworth, and Rayburn) are located south of the Capitol and are connected by underground tunnels. The Senate buildings (Russell, Dirksen, and Hart) are north of the Capitol and also connected underground. Most Hill Day meetings will take place in these offices, so be sure to double-check your meeting location and allow time to get through security.
1:45 PM: Group Photo
