House Energy and Commerce Chairman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) has announced the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 (HR.2483) will be considered tomorrow, April 29th, in front of the full committee. In total, six bills will be marked up starting at 10:00 am Eastern, and the hearing will be livestreamed on congress.gov.
Why Does This Bill Matter?
FASD Respect Act language is included in the SUPPORT Reauthorization Act, found under Title 1-Prevention, in section 104- Support for individuals and families impacted by fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. You can view the full bill text here. FASD provisions were included in the SUPPORT Act by Chairman Guthrie, who used language that was agreed to by House and Senate leaders at the end of the 118th Congress.
The markup process allows the committee to discuss a bill, offer proposed amendments, and petition to have provisions removed from the bill. This is why it was so important for committee members to hear from their constituents; there is an understanding within the House Energy and Commerce Committee that FASD provisions within the SUPPORT Reauthorization Act are widely popular and critically needed.

If HR.2483 progresses through the House Energy and Commerce Committee, it will be considered by the full House and eventually the Senate. There are 435 members of the House (and six non-voting members) who need to know how FASD-informed legislation will positively impact millions of Americans.
