FASD United is proud to stand in solidarity with 270 other national, state, and local organizations in signing the May 13, 2025, letter addressed to leadership of the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies. This joint statement expresses strong concern over proposed funding cuts outlined in the Administration’s Fiscal Year 2026 “Skinny Budget,” which threaten the effectiveness of critical maternal and infant health programs.
We join this broad coalition in urging Congress to maintain full funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and its key programs, including the Division of Reproductive Health. These programs — such as the Maternal Mortality Review Committees (MMRCs), Perinatal Quality Collaboratives, the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, and the ERASE MM initiative — are essential to addressing rising maternal mortality rates and ensuring healthy outcomes for mothers and babies nationwide.
FASD United is especially concerned about the potential loss of infrastructure that tracks, studies, and addresses the complex causes of maternal and infant mortality — including mental health and substance use disorder, both of which intersect with our mission of advancing awareness, diagnosis, and support for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).
As an organization dedicated to the health and wellbeing of families across the United States, we believe cutting evidence-based, bipartisan-supported maternal health programs would undermine decades of progress and put more lives at risk. We support continued investment in these lifesaving initiatives and call on Congress to protect and strengthen them.
