By now you understand the gap, you know your legislators, you have your why, and you know the ask. That is everything you need. Today is about getting call-ready by having the script at hand and the phone numbers for your two Senators and one Representative.
Take a few minutes to prepare. Confirm your two senators and your representative and keep their numbers handy. Plan to make the ask and to request a meeting, so this reaches beyond one call. Remember, you can also request a meeting with your legislator’s staff either in person or a video call!
Then tell us you are calling. Saying it out loud makes it real, and it helps the rest of us see the momentum building toward 9/9.
Call Script
“Hi, I live in [your city and state], and I’m calling because today is FASD Awareness Day. FASD, or fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, describes the range of conditions that result from prenatal alcohol exposure.
Awareness and funding for FASD do not match its prevalence. An estimated 1 in 20 Americans has an FASD. That’s a child in every single classroom.
FASD is a lifelong, whole-body disability that presents real challenges for children, adults, and families. But the research is encouraging: early diagnosis and intervention, paired with community supports, lead to improved life outcomes. We know what works. It just isn’t funded.
Congress has already taken the first step by passing FASD provisions in the SUPPORT Reauthorization Act of 2025. But authorizing a program isn’t the same as paying for it, and that follow-through hasn’t happened.
So on FASD Awareness Day, will [Senator / Representative’s name] stand with the FASD community and help fund FASD? I would also appreciate a meeting with a staff member to discuss this.
