[D-MI]<\/li><\/ul><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meetings next week<\/strong><\/h4><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana<\/li>\n\n<li>Senator Bill Cassidy (Chair of the Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee HELP)<\/li>\n\n<li>Congressman Buddy Carter of Georgia on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over health issues.<\/li><\/ul><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>State Legislation<\/strong><\/h4><p>o <strong>Kansas (Thank you Kat Meinhardt!)<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>HB2202\u00a0<\/strong>will require colleges to educate future teachers on FASD. Apart from raising awareness of FASD, this will give teachers the knowledge and tools they need to serve their students better.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>HB2203<\/strong>\u00a0will explicitly include FASD under the other health impairment (OHI) definition in the Special Education for Exceptional Children Act. This breaks down a barrier to support and will benefit both families and schools.<\/li><\/ul><p>o\u00a0<strong>Texas (Thank you Rebecca Ciesielski, Lynn McMurry, and the rest of the Texas Team)<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>HB2219\u00a0<\/strong>will explicitly list FASD as a qualifier for special education programs.<\/li>\n\n<li><strong>DRAFT:\u00a0<\/strong>will create FASD advisory council<\/li><\/ul><p>o\u00a0<strong>Massachusetts (Thank you Reuben Kitrell and Kristen Ericksen!)<\/strong>,<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>DRAFT<\/strong>: will create awareness, identification, intervention, and prevention programs. It would also include FASD in other state programs where appropriate.
