What is Run FASD?

Run FASD embodies Strength, Tenacity, Empowerment, Hope, and Vision. A virtual 5k event that can happen at your own pace wherever you are. From September 9th-17th, 2023, we want you to Run FASD to bring awareness to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. The dream of author, runner, and FASD self-advocate Rebecca Tillou, Run FASD encourages people with FASD, their allies, and supporters to make this invisible disability, visible. This virtual 5k can be completed at a walk, run, or roll in your own time, at your own pace. Can’t run or walk this year? You can still donate to support FASD.

Meet Your Coach and Race Chair

Rebecca Tillou is a mother, author, runner and powerful FASD self-advocate. Rebecca wants to bring to light that it’s never too late to get screened, get a FASD diagnosis, and get assistance or strategies. Rebecca uses running as a support strategy, “Running makes me feel EMPOWERED, STRONG, RELAXED, IN CONTROL!” You can find Rebecca’s self advocacy, running tips and more on her Facebook Group @RunFASD.

Race Details

The 5k Run FASD can be done from anywhere, no starting line, no finish line – just you, moving at your own pace. You can run as a group, or on your own at any time during the week of September 9th-17th, 2023. You can choose the registration option that best suits you, with costs ranging from $5 to $35. Once you are done with your 5k, log your time back on to the website and see just how many people are also out there running FASD also (personal information is not shared). Proceeds from the race will benefit FASD United.

FAQ’s

I can’t run 5k, can I still participate?

YES!!! A resounding yes!!! Some people with FASD require modifications to activities, or the environment to be more successful – Run FASD is based on that exact same principal. We chose 5k because it is a challenge, but one that can be modified for anyone to participate in. You can walk the 5k, run the 5k, bike, wheel, skip or swim it. You can ride alongside a runner while you are in a car. You can break the run up over the course of a week. It doesn’t matter as long as you are “running” as FASTD as you are able to comfortably. See what we did there with the name?

What does my race fee include?

We have multiple registration options, so choose what works best for you. A complete registration of $35 will get you a shirt, medal, and race bib. You can register for $25 and receive a shirt a race bib, for $15 and receive a medal and race bib, or for just $5 and receive a race bib.

Is it too late to register?

Not at all! You can register for Run FASD until midnight on September 9th!

I don’t want to run, but I do want to donate where can I do that?

Click here to donate to support FASD United initiatives supporting individuals with FASD.

When will I receive my race gear?

Race gear will begin shipping August 1st.

I’d like more information on Run FASD. Who at FASD United can I contact?

Chris Melfi is the support person at FASD United for Run FASD. A one-time soccer player and coach, whose pace is closer to a walk than a run these days, Chris is “running” to spread awareness to those who need to learn more about FASD. You can contact Chris at Melfi@fasdunited.org or 202-785-4585.
